Tsukiyono

Kamimoku is one of the villages belonging to the Tsukiyono Township ("Tsukiyono Machi")

According to a legend from the ancient age of Heian, Minamoto-no-Shitagau (911-983), a Kyoto poet passing through this place, was so impressed with the moon rising from Mount Mitsumine that he made a poem:

"Oh, how beautiful is the moon shining on these evening fields"
(Oo yoki tsuki yono kana)

This is how Tsukiyono got its name.

The township of Tsukiyono lies on hilly area, full of mild sunshine and nature breathing. Here, you will find the mysteries of nature such as fireflies ("hotaru"), forest green frogs ("moriaogaeru"), rare marsh grasses, and floating waterweeds.

Enjoy the gorgeous view of the two rivers, Tone and Akaya, as you relax at hot spas in the Tsukiyono area.

Pay a visit to the Tsukiyono Glass Factory ("Tsukiyono Bidoro Park") and its local beer brewery. The word "Bidoro" was imported from the Portuguese language "Vidro" for glass.

Also worth a detour are the Tsukiyono Botokan Pottery at "Tsukiyono Yaki", the historical archives building ("Kyodo Rekishi Shiryokan") and the historic sites of Yaze.

For those who love outdoor activities, Mount Ohmine is the best hiking route.
